Howdy Stranger

I notice that as life goes along, I pick up more and more social responsibilities.  The interactions are equally divided between necessity and drudgery.  Almost all revolve around casual acquaintances.  Not that I don’t like being around people, quite the contrary.  But I find casual acquaintances tedious.  Small talk is not a gift of mine.  One small talk topic is particularly challenging.  Sports.  If you are a male on this planet, you are expected to follow sports and have multiple statistics committed to memory.  This is Kryptonite for me.  I never know what to do when I am in a social group with other men.  When they start talking sports, silence undoubtedly comes across as arrogance, stupidity or “dandyish.”

I am left with few other topics of casual conversation.  Since religion, politics and current events are no no’s, the only remaining topic is the weather.

Today’s weather in Ashburn, Virginia is nice.  Have a nice day.
